Democratic Representative Jamie Raskin wants more information about the editing of the interview Donald Trump gave to “60 Minutes,” alleging that the president had “improper” influence over CBS News’ decisions.

Raskin wrote a letter to CBS addressed to Ken Weinstein, the network’s ombudsman, condemning “the improper influence that President Donald Trump exercised over CBS News’ editorial decisions” regarding the interview.

The congressman’s letter was obtained by The Hill. In addition to the “60 Minutes” interview, Raskin also claims that the president may have influenced other journalistic coverage decisions within the company.

“The president increasingly appears to be exercising direct control over CBS’ editorial decisions, undermining the network’s ‘journalistic integrity’ while violating its right to be free from government coercion and manipulation.”

In his appearance on the program, CBS chose not to include Trump’s comments about Paramount, the network’s parent company, which paid the president 16 million dollars to settle a lawsuit.

“In fact, 60 Minutes paid me a lot of money,” Trump told journalist Norah O’Donnell in a portion of the interview that was not broadcast but later revealed in a transcript.

Raskin describes CBS as “merely a victim in President Trump’s systematic intimidation campaign against media organizations.”

The lawmaker is requesting a copy of the editorial standards the network uses to assess complaints.
